Jim Thompson is an American born in 1906, after working for the US Secret Services during World war II he came to Thailand in 1949 and fell in love with the country. His business, selling silk from Thailand all over the world, made him travel across Thailand. In 1959 he bought a land in Bangkok and built the house that is still to be seen today.

As a passionate of art and architecture, he created the housse at his image.  Unlike everyone else at that time who wanted to build bungalows and modern apartments, he assembled several ancient wooden houses from across Thailand to link them together and create this place which is a mixed of Thai architecture with a European influence linking the several houses to each others with halls and corridors.

Among his art collection lots of unique pieces of art from several periods of the Thai history.
